where are the real natives? Why doesn’t a girl who actually looks native and not white make a video like this to give an accurate representation of the people who hear this shit daily?

1. What is a ‘real Native’? This woman (ihavethisblog) is a real Native….because she’s Native.  The folks that contributed to this video are ‘real Natives’. For us by us.

2. Look Native? Again, watch the video. We are not a monolith - we do not all share the same genes - we are beautiful in our diversity. We are not a stereotype. We are no the Land O’ Lakes butter girl. We are not Disney’s Pocahontas. Or the wooden Indian at the smoke shop. We look Native because we are Native. Native looks like her. Native looks like me. Native looks like us.

3. Accuracy. Who are you to say what her experiences are - what she has heard and what she hasn’t heard? I’m not sorry this video isn’t for you. It’s not about what confirms your sense of the ‘Native’ experience. It’s about us, coming together with our experiences, and one woman who very generously and creatively put together a video. For us by us.

You have got to be kidding? Did you watch the video? The part where she mentions we don’t all look native. Not every one of us has dark skin, high cheek bones and long black hair. You don’t have to look like fucking Pocahontas to be native. I sure as hell don’t. So shit, I guess that must mean I’m not, right?

Thank goodness, someone else has noticed how people stereotype Native Americans ethnically when they are supposedly in support of them. The majority of my friends are Native American in some shape or form…not one of them appears to be ethnically Native, yet they are and that’s because that’s how they were born. Simply put, doesn’t make them any less of a Native American. All the above comments, bravo.
