Things That Happened Most Recently.

  • My Math class showed their lack of knowledge when it came to politics and economics. Someone said “We should vote about if we should change the seating arrangement.” (They wanted to, the teachers didn’t want to). One of the teacher’s reply “This isn’t a democracy!” Then two or three kids (too many) reply from out of nowhere “Oh Communism!” “We’re not Communists!” and “Oh no, Communism!” Just because I tend to get very annoyed when people don’t understand terms yet try to use them anyway, I quickly shot back a response that silenced the whole room. “Communism is an economic system, what you are thinking of is a dictatorship, a form of government, an autocracy. If you are going to speak about a system of any kind know what you are talking about.” The teacher kind of gave me a funny look. Oh well.
  • In my Science class (Biology) we have finally gotten to discussing evolution directly (Even though many of the basic concepts we’ve already discussed but did not point out the connection to evolution, for what ever reason). This amazingly bothered me when the teacher went up in front of the class before taking notes and said “Now everyone, I just want to say that this is my job and I have to tell you this. We can leave religion out of this and can believe what we all want to, I’m just here to tell you the facts. You can reject it if you want to, but I have to tell you.”  This greatly bothered me, even though I do believe that people have the right to believe what they believe, I still find it very appalling that a science teacher would tell her students you can believe or cannot believe facts. It was almost a contradiction to logic. If anything, she shouldn’t have brought up religion at all, taught what she was supposed to teach and explain it was a scientific theory which is what is taught in SCIENCE class then maybe it would have been fine. I even asked her if she’d read anything by Darwin (She had not). I almost offered some of my copies of his works. Almost.
  • I have given up on asking people why they don’t like Obama. Even though I’m sure some may have good reasoning, 98% of the time they are complaining about congress and not Obama. So not worth asking.
  • I (for some reason, I have no clue) have been getting ready for school each morning to the music of Disney movies. Since I went to go see Beauty and The Beast with my little sister and my boyfriend in 3D the other day, I noticed a lot of symbolism I had never noticed before. This led me to categorizing the most feminist Disney princesses and then the fails of Disney at times. I may post about this after this post, I haven’t decided it.
  • Valentine’s Day is coming up..Which leads me to question the point really, besides money for Greeting Card companies and flower shops. Over all though, I do not see the connection of February 14th and love.
